Dawn Blackmore – Success Story!

Business owner, wife, mum of three and all round top chick! This is her story……

“I was really at a turning point when I discovered Power Fitness Maddington. I had looked around at other places, but felt intimidated to work out at them. I didn’t feel comfortable and I didn’t feel like I fit in. I was very nervous. I knew some of the school mums that came here, so it made it much less intimidating for me and I decided to join. That was about April 2017.

Before I joined the gym, I had no health. I was sick as a dog I guess, permanently, I was so overweight it was a joke. I wasn’t me. I’d become Mum and wife and everyone but me. I felt fat and ugly…now I’m not (lol). After having my youngest daughter, my weight just ballooned. I had stopped playing my sports and everything else. Between work, and kids, and the husband and the house, you just don’t have time.

My doctors had been saying things to me for 15 years, about my health, and that I had to make a change.

Because of my diabetes, I had many different doctors, endocrinologists, and nutritionists, all telling me the same thing … that I had to make a change. But I didn’t listen. I wasn’t ready. And if you aren’t ready to make a change …. You don’t listen. It needs to be a complete mental change, it has to be your change, and you have to be ready to do it.

Of course I didn’t start using the gym as soon as I joined lol. I went on holidays…still didn’t use the gym . But there did come a point when I knew I had to get serious so I began sneaking in about 9am on Sunday mornings when no one was there, and getting on the treadmill. I didn’t have much confidence but I did start thinking that I was fit lol.

The turning point for me was literally one morning looking the mirror. I was brushing my hair and I looked at my reflection and said “I can’t be you anymore”. It was as simple as that. I knew I had to do something drastic to change my health and the treadmill just wasn’t cutting it. I said to Scott, my husband, I might ring this Reuben dude and ask him if he thinks I’ll survive if I do this 9 week challenge lol.

I rang Reuben but he didn’t answer and I was SO happy lol. Of course he called me back later that day and I looked for every excuse under the sun for him to tell me NOT to do it. My medical situation, the Diabetes, my knee injuries etc. But he was great. He assured me that beginners could do it and encouraged me to get onboard. I literally jumped right in on that 9 week challenge because I knew I had to make a change and I didn’t look back. That was where it all changed for me.

My health now is amazing. I’ve lost over 25kgs and I run now! How good is that! I am in the gym 6 days a week mostly. I train at 5am Monday to Friday. I have a PT session once a week and do classes as well. Monday is my rest day but if I’ve had a crap day at work, I’ll go for a run around the block lol. And that in itself if fantastic. I never thought I would run again. I feel amazing!

I think that one of the main things that helped me in the gym, apart from learning about nutrition and how to workout, was being accountable to someone. Chris, Reuben, Tammy and Aly….they were all fantastic. Even Tinayah, (friend and fellow gym member) was great! Knowing that she was also going to be in the gym at 5am working out and could help me, was so good. I felt very supported. I love the gym and the gym loves me….The gym is home.

Now, I feel like I can comfortably walk into a pub to meet friends and no one cares. Whereas before, I just would just say “can’t make it, sorry”. Now, I’m like “Sure! I’ll put on my red dress lol”. I m more confident…..definitely more confident.

I have literally changed my health and turned my life around. I feel healthy! Amazing! That endorphin thing that people have been trying to sell me for years…..I get that now  .
